How to Pass the TEF Canada Speaking Section: Ben's Method

The TEF Canada oral expression section is one of the most stressful parts of the exam — a live conversation with an examiner, recorded and evaluated by two independent assessors. Here's what you need to know, and the method I've developed coaching hundreds of students through it.

    The TEF Canada Speaking Structure

The oral expression has two sections, each conducted face-to-face with an examiner:

    Ben's Method: The 3-P Framework

For both sections, structure every intervention with: Position → Points → Perspective.

    1. Position: State your goal or stance immediately. Don't waste time — examiners evaluate how quickly you get to the point.
    2. Points: Develop 2-3 clear arguments with concrete examples. Use connectors: "D'une part... d'autre part... de plus..."
    3. Perspective: In Section B especially, anticipate objections and counter them. This is what separates a B2 from a C1 score.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

    The key to Section B

The examiner is trained to be resistant. Don't be discouraged when they push back — that's the format. Stay calm, reframe your arguments, find new angles. Students who give up when challenged lose the most points.

The TEF oral section rewards preparation and confidence. Our speaking prep section has 100+ structured topics covering both TEF Canada sections.
